Michael F. Swem, 55, of Hamilton, passed away Monday at Capital Health System - Hopewell. Born in Trenton, he was a lifelong area resident. Michael worked for the State of New Jersey for 32 years. He began with the Department of Motor Vehicles and later worked in the Department of Transportation, where he was a governmental relations specialist in the correspondence unit for the commissioner.
 
He was a graduate of St. Anthony's High School, where he ran track and was nicknamed "Greased Lightning." He attended MCCC and graduated from The College of New Jersey, earning a bachelor of art degree. Michael enjoyed listening to music and attended many concerts. His favorite ones were Elton John, Al Stewart and Richard Thompson. Michael loved animals, auto racing and hanging out with his nieces and nephews. He had a very unique sense of humor and could tell a good joke. Along with his wife, he traveled to see the Philadelphia Mummers Parade every New Year's Day and every Memorial Day would watch the Indianapolis 500. Michael was a New York Mets and Minnesota Vikings fan.
 
Son of the late Theodore F. and Lucy Gallipoli Swem, he is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rose Scozzari Swem; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Theresa and John Scordo of Allentown and Patricia Swem of Trenton; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Judith Swem of Yardville and John Swem of Trenton; nieces and nephews, Joe Swem, Heather Kruse and her husband, Scott, Karyn Swem, Christopher and Alyssa Scordo, Joseph and John Costa; his sister-in-law, Rosalia Costa and her husband, Stephen, of Cream Ridge, and also extended family in Brooklyn.
 
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6 to til 9 p.m., and again on Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m. at the M. William Murphy Funeral Home, 1863 Hamilton Ave. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Anthony's Church at 11 a.m. Entombment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
